Where are you located?
We are located in downtown Alexandria, MN at 413 Broadway Street. Our office is across the street from Ace Hardware and immediately next to Downtown Diner. Street parking is available nearby as well as public parking.

I’m interested in remodeling and/or adding on to our existing home, where do I begin?
Contact CB Designs by phone or email and we can set up a meeting at the site location. In that first design meeting, we will view the property, discuss your ideas, house style, size, and scope of the project. We typically take measurements at the site visit of the existing structure along with pictures for our reference to digitally draw the existing structure accurately. Our plans show clearly where the remodeled walls and windows were prior to construction. They also show where the new walls, windows, and building will take place.
How long does it take to have a complete set of plans?
All projects are different, but generally we go through two phases. The first phase is to get you a full set of Preliminary Plans. This may take a few revisions to get the plans to your liking. Once they are at a certain point, you can go out to get bids. The second phase may start with revisions based on the results of bidding, but it will end with a complete full set of Final Construction Plans. These will include all dimensions, details, and wall sections. Based on your specific project it is best to ask about a possible timeline.
How long does it take to get in for a meeting?
A minimum of a three day notice is appreciated to help us accommodate you around our current projects and scheduled meeting times. It will also help us by avoiding walk-ins so we can prepare for your meeting to make it productive.
I am starting to build and my plans do not have all the dimensions?
If your plans still have the watermark and labeled Preliminary Plans, they will not have all the necessary dimensions needed to build. The Final set of plans will have all the dimensions needed for building.
What role does CB Designs Play in the building process and what do you do?
We provide a full line of drafting and design services starting the process with Preliminary Plans for bidding and finishing with Final Plans for building while working hand in hand with the homeowner, the contractor and interior designer (if using). At CB Designs we provide a variety of services including building design, interior layouts, exterior layouts, detail drawings, window configuration, drafting final blueprint drawings, and 3D visuals of the interior and exterior. We do not offer interior design, but we do fill the gap between building design and interior design through our rendering services.
Revisions?
Throughout the process based on ideas, conversations, visuals, and more customers will come up with many changes or revisions. In order to keep the workflow, it is best to have revisions grouped together and contact CB designs to schedule an in person meeting to talk through all revisions in one sitting. We work through current projects on a week to week basis and any revisions can take two to three weeks to complete and possibly a little longer depending on workload. Any revisions will be added to the list and time will vary based on the amount of changes.
I only have a few changes, can i just call to have a quick conversation?
For revisions, even if you want to call, please send an email or schedule a meeting with revisions written down to have a record of desired changes. We do not want any miscommunication or to miss any desired changes. Having a record, either through email or on paper from an in person meeting can help us to recall what was mentioned and can be used if a client would like a copy for their records.
I Am Having Trouble Picturing My Design, Is There Anything To Help?
At CB Designs we offer 3D renderings of all designs, upon request. Many times people do not understand the spatial feeling of desired spaces, the flow from one room to the next, how a vault or flat ceiling will look, and more. The 3D visuals can help the client visualize their design along with catching any possible miscommunications or concerns about specific aspects.
I am able to visualize my design, why are the 3D visuals still important?
If you pay upfront with a 3D walkthrough you will save money in the end. Not only do these 3D visuals aid in seeing your spaces, but they can also help to confirm any hesitations and save your change orders on site down the road. The professional 3D visuals have been proven successful in these areas countless times and continue to do so.
